Detained Immigrant Child Diagnosed With Swine Flu In San Antonio

Updated: Wednesday, June 25 2014, 05:13 PM CDT

Officials say an immigrant child being housed at a San Antonio air force base has been diagnosed with H1N1 -- commonly known as swine flu.

The sick child is one of nearly a thousand immigrant children staying at Lackland Air Force Base after crossing the border alone into the United States.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services runs that facility.

A spokesperson says the child had to go to the hospital and is now doing better.

Other children may not be vaccinated because the CDC says they may have already been exposed and peak flu season is over.
