E Austin Fire Injures 2, Displaces 7

An early morning fire displaces seven, including two children.

According to an ESD 4 spokesperson, a call was received at approximately 1:26 a.m. of a structure fire on Waywood Drive, in east Austin near the 130 toll road.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure.  Residents had already evacuated.

Two people suffered injuries from the fire.  A 22 year-old female suffered second and third degree burns and was flown to a San Antonio burn center.

An elderly male suffered smoke inhalation. A family dog died in the fire.

The structure suffered heavy smoke and heat damage.  Damage estimates are $50,000 to the structure, $25,000 to contents.

The Red Cross is assisting the five adults and two children who have been displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
