Elementary School Gets Major Award

Updated: Wednesday, June 4 2014, 09:34 AM CDT

A big award for Camino Real Elementary School. It was just selected as the 2014 Civil Air Patrol National ACE School of the Year.

The award honors schools for outstanding commitment to engaging students campus-wide in STEM subjects, that's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, through the Aerospace Connections in Education program.

To qualify for the award the school had to score "exemplary" or "exceeded" in the Ace program school-wide implementation guidelines. Teachers had to become Aerospace Educator Members or senior members of the Civil Air Patrol. The school must also show enthusiasm for the program.

"The entire campus is thrilled to receive this award," said Camino Real Principal Marivel Sedillo. "By implementing the ACE program, we are proud to see the students' excitement as they experience real-applications of STEM subjects beyond the traditionl classroom."

It's the third year Camino Real participated in the ACE program. The campus gets a school plaque and $500.
