Final Parent Meeting Tuesday After Alleged AISD Teacher Sexual Assault

Updated: Tuesday, June 17 2014, 07:21 AM CDT
On Tuesday evening, it's the last chance for parents to ask the tough questions about sex assault charges against a former Austin ISD teacher. Police say Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan confessed to the crime which allegedly happened last Wednesday.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Walnut Creek Elementary, the same school where Andrade-Gaytan last taught. The two big questions to answer tonight: are there any more victims? How is the district going to keep kids safe?

So far, Austin ISD police tell us they've given parents a recap of what happened and also covered their concerns and frustrations, including how they talk to their kids about the issue, how to tell if their kids were victims of inappropriate behavior, and what happens if other allegations come up. Chief Eric Mendez says they also talked about the investigative process, counseling, and district safety precautions. AISD officials say Andrade-Gaytan passed a background check, had a clean record, and met the student that same day of the assault.

With their being more than 85,000 students in the district, Chief Mendez says there is always a chance of other victims. That's why they want to hear from parents.Final Parent Meeting Tuesday After Alleged AISD Teacher Sexual Assault
