FL Police: Woman Eats Marijuana in Patrol Car

Updated: Monday, June 23 2014, 01:53 PM CDT

A Florida woman is facing serious charges after police say she was caught with a bag of marijuana, and then she ate the evidence. The incident was caught on a camera in the patrol car.

Brevard County Police say Tavish Smith crashed her truck on U.S. 1, started driving the wrong way on U.S. 1, and then crashed again. Authorities say she was giggling while they were asking her questions and searching her car. A bag of marijuana was found out in the open.

Then after the officers handcuff her hands behind her back and put her in the patrol car, they go back to finish searching her car. Smith is seen on camera wiggling out of her handcuffs, and grabbing the marijuana from the front seat of the patrol car. And then, she eats it.

An officer comes back, and notices the patrol car smells like marijuana, and then he asks Smith if she wiggled out of her handcuffs. She says no at first, but then he says he noticed she scratched her nose. That's when she admits to getting out of her handcuffs.

Smith's misdemeanor charges for a minor hit-and-run, driving under the influence and drug possession were bumped up to a felony for eating the evidence.
