Former Bastrop Teacher Gets 15 Years For Sexually Assaulting 2 Students

Updated: Friday, June 20 2014, 01:09 PM CDT

A former Bastrop sixth grade teacher has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of aggravated sexual assault against two students.

According to the Texas Attorney General's Office, Arthur Reyes, 61, who was employed with the Bastrop Independent School District, was arrested on Aug. 23, 2012, after one of his students made an outcry to relatives about being sexually assaulted by Reyes.

During the initial investigation a second student -- the underage brother of another of Reyes's students -- also reported being sexually victimized by Reyes, officials say.

In April 2013, a Bastrop County grand jury indicted Reyes on charges of sexually assaulting the two minors. Reyes pleaded guilty to both indictments Thursday and received 15 year sentences on each of them, says an official with the Texas AG Office.

The prison sentences will run concurrently.
