Group Holds HB2 Vigil At Capitol

Updated: Sunday, July 13 2014, 11:18 AM CDT

One year ago on Saturday, Texas lawmakers passed some of the strictest abortion restrictions in the nation.

A group of people met at the Texas capitol to continue their fight against Texas House Bill 2.

The gathering was not like what has seen in the past with thousands of people descending on the capitol. It was more much relaxed.

People said their goal was to reflect on what happened in 2013 and look to the future on how to make changes.

While small in numbers they say their voices are loud and their message echoes throughout the state.

That message is the law did nothing to help women but rather hurt them.

The main parts of the bill were the ban on abortions after 20 weeks and the requirement that clinics must all be ambulatory surgical center standards.

At this time last year there were more than 40 clinics providing abortions in Texas.

As of last month about 20 remained open.
