Hawaii Signs 'Revenge Porn' Bill

Updated: Saturday, June 21 2014, 01:25 PM CDT

Activists in Hawaii are celebrating after officials passed a “Revenge Porn” bill.

The law prevents anyone from posting lewd pictures of someone online without their consent.

Experts say that the internet makes it too easy for people to be harassed online.

Now that's considered a felony in Hawaii.

“He or she can be in jail for 5 years or more and so this is pretty powerful, it is potent. And it will be a very strong deterrent for those who want to do something like this”, stated Vice Speaker John Mizuno.

Critics argued the law might go against free speech.

Officials say attacking someone just crosses the line.
