Jury Deliberates Fate Of Former Leander HS Football Star

Updated: Tuesday, July 15 2014, 06:47 PM CDT
The jury is now deliberating the fate of former Leander High School football star, Greg Kelley, who is accused of sexually assaulting two young children.

It was a heated case up until the very end.  But putting emotions aside, the jury must consider only the facts presented in court.

"The truth is I don't know what we got.  All I know is there's a lot of issues regarding the reliability of what took place," said defense attorney Patricia Cummings.

Kelley's attorney maintains the parents of the alleged victims created false allegations of sexual abuse that were carried by the children.  Prosecutors disagree.

"What parent would want their kid to know about oral sex at the age of 4," said assistant district attorney Sunday Austin.

"They  want to point to the detective, to the interviewer, to the parents.  Anybody but those kids because when you forget about these kids you may forget about the fact that he's guilty," said assistant district attorney Geoffrey Puryear.

Kelley is accused of sexually assaulting two young boys at an in-house daycare in Cedar Park where he was living last year.  Outside the courtroom the woman who ran the daycare, Shama McCarty,  burst into tears and had to be comforted by Kelley who is fighting for his freedom.

Jury is considering three counts:

(2) counts super-aggravated sexual assault.

(1) count of indecency with a child.
