Local Church Sends Carloads Of Donations To Border

Updated: Sunday, July 27 2014, 07:17 PM CDT

Immigration is a hot political topic right now, but one organization is saying people need to set politics aside and help those affected.

Local cities like Marble Falls are passing resolutions banning the federal government from opening immigration centers in its city limits.

Volunteers with Saint James Episcopal Church say it’s not a political issue; it needs to be a humanitarian issue.

Dozens of volunteers packed up several cars filled with everything from food and diapers to clothing.

With thousands of children at the border, Reverend Lisa Saunders says these items are in short supply.

Saunders says because of the political nature she was shocked how many people stepped up to help out.

There is even a waiting list of people willing to make a second trip to the border if need be.

The church will be delivering everything it collected to McAllen, along the border.

The volunteers hope to make a second trip to the border soon.
