North Austin Abortion Clinic To Close

Updated: Thursday, July 31 2014, 06:31 PM CDT

An abortion clinic in North Austin is closing its doors because it can't meet the new structural standards required for all Texas abortion clinics that go into effect in September.

Whole Woman's Health CEO Amy Hicks says the clinic -- located on the northbound I-35 frontage just south of Rundberg Lane -- will shut its doors permanently on Thursday.

According to Dallasnews.com this is the 17th clinic to close in Texas since November when a new law went into effect requiring clinics to meet the same strict structural standards required of ambulatory surgical centers by September of this year. Doctors performing abortions must also have admitting privileges at hospitals within 30 miles of the clinics.
