Police say they've arrested a man for arson after he allegedly poured gasoline on several vehicles in Downtown Austin and tried to set them on fire.

According to the Austin Police Department it happened at around 10 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and Neches streets.

APD says by the time officers responded to the scene the suspect had fled, but after obtaining a description from witnesses officers located him close by in the 600 block of Sabine Street.

He was covered in gasoline and was attempting to smoke a cigarette, according to APD.

He was booked into the Travis County Jail for attempted arson.
