San Marcos Animal Adoption Center Closed For Water Repairs

Updated: Tuesday, August 5 2014, 03:40 PM CDT
The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter's adoption center on River Road, could be closed for up to two weeks to repair water damage.

The extensive damage happened overnight on Sunday, a press release said.  The press release says a hose in the animal bathing room ruptured while no staff members were present, causing extensive damage to the building.

Administrative offices, the surgical room, the cat adoption room, restrooms, the bathing area, and hallways all had water damage.

Adoptions have been stopped temporarily during the emergency repairs, the release said.

“The Animal Shelter is working closely with local animal rescue organizations for placement of animals currently at the shelter to make room for incoming stray and surrendered animals,” Kara Montiel, the Animal Services Manager said.

None of the animals were harmed, but officials say the center will be closed during the repairs and it will not be able to offer adoption services for two weeks.

At this time, there is no estimate on the cost of the repairs.

Animal Control is still offering its services.  People needing to surrender a pet should contact Animal Control at 512.805.2655.
