Texas Teen Sets Self On Fire For Social Media Game

Updated: Thursday, July 31 2014, 04:45 PM CDT
CROSBY, Tx. (CNN) -- There are reports of teens around the U.S. participating in a dangerous activity called "The Fire Challenge." Already it's led to at least three reports of young people suffering serious burns.

Now a Texas teen is recovering after trying the game for himself. 14-year-old Michael Symonette says he is happy to be home after suffering 2nd degree burns.

He was playing the "Fire Challenge" game. A Youtube Video shows the disturbing national trend where young people set themselves on fire using rubbing alcohol.

Michael ran out of the shower with his stomach on fire and his sister had to put out the fire with her hands.

Michael's mother wanted to show the burns so other children could learn a lesson.  "It's not fun.  It's not funny, it's not cute.  I don't understand why they would want to do it. And now he's having second degree burns and he's in pain."Texas Teen Sets Self On Fire For Social Media Game
