Thieves Target Austin Zoo Causing $25K Loss

Updated: Friday, July 4 2014, 06:30 PM CDT

Thieves target the Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary causing a $25,000 loss.

Friday, July 4th was supposed to be the big debut of three, rescued black bear cubs, but instead it was overshadowed by crooks who broke into the gift shop.

Austin Zoo director, Patti Clark, says the store was a mess when she got in Friday morning and several high-price items were missing - including two laptops, 12 security cameras, 14 radios, the safe with $5,000 inside and the ATM.

Since a large portion of the operating costs are paid for by donations, Clark says the financial loss will definitely slow them down.

The Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization. If you would like to donate, visit their website.
