Two Shot by Same Bullet at Oklahoma Gun Range

Updated: Tuesday, June 3 2014, 09:59 AM CDT

A firearms instructor and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol cadet are recovering after a shooting at an Oklahoma City gun range Monday afternoon.

The cadet was training when the shooting happened. Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesperson Betsy Randolph said the cadet was shot in the leg and the instructor was shot in the hand with the same bullet. But the investigation is still in the early stages. "Anytime we have a situation like this, we consider it extremely serious. We're going to take all the necessary steps to ensure that all the safety precautions were met that have been in place for years and years. And then if we find that there's something that wasn't done correctly we'll modify our training standards to make sure this never happens again," says Randolph.

One of the victims was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The other victim was taken to the hospital in a police cruiser. Both victims were treated and released Monday night.
