UPDATE:

Austin Police have identified a man killed in a motorcycle crash on Friday morning.

Police say Marcus Antonio Samuel Jr., 21, died after his motorcycle crashed into the side of a pickup truck.

Police say Samuel Jr. was wearing a helmet and speed was a factor in the crash.

Austin Police say at 4:00 a.m. today, a patrol officer noticed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound E 7th Street. The officer did follow him and says he ran at least one red light. By the time the officer reached him, the motorcyclist had crashed into the front of a pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Pedernales. The motorcyclist was a male in his 20-30's and pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the truck, identified only as a male, was taken to UMC Brackenridge with minor injuries. Investigators believe the wreck was caused by the motorcyclist's speeding, but the driver of  the truck was later arrested for DWI.

East 7th Street was shut down for roughly three hours for two blocks up from the Pedernales intersection in both directions while vehicular homicide conducted their investigation.
