Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 03:23 PM CDT

2:20 p.m. UPDATE: Police say the suspects -- a male and two females -- tried to cash a forged check at a bank. They took off when it was declined but police say they had already been tracking them and when they suspects drove to a gas station they were surrounded by officers.

Police say officers tried to take them into custody but the male fled on foot and one of the women backed their vehicle into a unmarked police car and took off. That's when the suspect's vehicle hit a car at the intersection of Ben White Boulevard and Woodward and caught fire.

The two women were taken into custody at that time. And the man was found an hour later and taken into custody, police say.

They're facing multiple charges and police say the suspects may have been involved in other check fraud cases.

Austin Police are asking residents to avoid the area around the 1900 block of East Ben White, as they search for a suspect in connection to a crash and car fire.

Police say the crash and fire happened around 11:08 a.m.

A person inside the vehicle allegedly fled from the scene. Police are searching for that person in the area.
