US Marshals: Suspect Accused Of Killing Former Brother-In-Law

Updated: Saturday, June 7 2014, 01:51 PM CDT

The scene looks pretty quiet now but on March 1 at about 12:45 a.m. a man lay dead in the bathroom of club Zota de Oro in East Austin.

29-year old Arturo Torres is the shooting suspect.

Investigators say Torres and the victim, Edgar Cruz Macedo, went to the club together.

Macedo is Torres' ex-brother in law.

But while at the club, Macedo got into a brief confrontation with two men.

“His brother in law which is the victim in this case goes to use the restroom and Arturo Torres sees these two individuals follow the victim into the restroom,” says deputy US Marshal Brandon Filla.

Filla adds that Torres went to check on Macedo who was fighting with the two men.

According to the arrest affidavit Torres “attempted to intervene and brandished a handgun. The unknown men then attempted to wrestle the handgun from his grip. A single gunshot ran out and Macedo immediately dropped to the bathroom floor.”

Filla says "the victim was pronounced dead on scene, Arturo Torres fled, the security guard tried to run after him, Arturo got away in a Silver Chevy Tahoe."

Police later recovered that Tahoe in the Smithville area near a family member’s home.

The last known address for Torres is inside a Del Valle mobile home park.

"The investigation has led us to believe that this individual may be in the Austin area or may have fled to Mexico,” says Filla.

Torres is about 6-feet tall and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
