Monkeying Around with the iPad

Updated: Thursday, May 10 2012, 09:04 AM CDT
You’ve heard technology for dummies---but technology for monkeys?

A group of six orangutans at Jungle Island Zoo in Florida, are proving they too can adjust to technological advances.  Their care taker Linda Jacobs is using the iPad to stimulate them and hopes to later use it as a means of communication.

One of the primates, Peanut, matches up a picture with what Jacobs tells him.  A researcher first introduced the iPad to dolphins, then later suggested Jungle Island use it with their orangutans.

Jacobs hopes that the iPad will bridge the gap between human and orangutans and help display just how smart they really are.
