Pole Greasers Entertain Mardi Gras Crowd

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 09:47 PM CDT
Colorful beads, floats and King’s Cake…if one event comes to mind, you thought right!
Mardi Gras celebrations kicked off Friday.  It is also known for its flashy floats, creative masks and wild crowds getting out of hand.

One hotel incorporated its own tradition to prevent the rebellious from injuring themselves and others.

The Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans started greasing the poles outside their entrance to stop revelers from climbing up to the balconies for a better view during the parades.

For 42 years, huge crowds have watched. This year four ladies in bright pink and combat boots smeared petroleum jelly on the poles.
