Tomato Throwing Festival Makes a Mess

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 10:47 PM CDT
Tons of tomatoes and an excuse to make a massive mess every year--this is the "Tomatina Festival" in Bunol, Spain.

About 40,000 people, many half-naked, are hurling 120 tons of squashed tomatoes at each other.

The Tomatina festival is held every year on the last Wednesday in August. Although it may look like chaos, the festival is expected to bring in over $300,000 to the small town’s economy.

Tourists from all over the world, including Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India come to the small village just for the festival, which is believed to have started in the 1940's

It's a sea of humanity, full of Sangria and covered in red juices. Chunks of the fruit fly through the air and cover everything and everyone in sight.
