Border Patrol K-9 returns to duty after back surgery
SAN ANTONIO - One determined dog made his return to duty on Monday as a Border Patrol K-9.
Back in December, Kvido and his caregiver faced a life-changing decision - have Kvido undergo back surgery or have him retire.
He became the first dog to receive a stabilization device implant, and doctors say, not too long after the surgery, his behavior was promising.
"We're ecstatic about how he has done so far," said James Giles, veterinarian. "A lot of surgeries, you don't know exactly how well they're gonna do , but right now, he's pain free, he's very comfortable."
Veterinarians say more often than not, dogs are forced into retirement from this condition, but with the new procedure, he'll be able to live a normal life.
