Local leaders to announce support for lawsuit against SB 4

Tuesday afternoon, city council members, county commissioners, state legislators and grassroots organizations will announce their support for litigation against SB 4.

They are expected to announce resolutions that will be introduced at the city level to pursue a lawsuit against the state because they believe the new law is unconstitutional.

Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill into law on May 7th. The new "anti- sanctuary cities" law would force law enforcement to comply with voluntary federal immigration requests.

Since Abbott signed the bill, protestors have called for a "Summer of Resistance." The group of leaders is calling on more elected officials and citizens to join the fight against SB 4.

"The time to take action is now, and the first step in a journey of resistance is defeating an unconstitutional law," said San Antonio Council Member Ray Saldana.
