Man gets 45 years in prison for South Austin HEB throat slashing
The man convicted of slashing a woman's throat at a South Austin HEB will spend the next 45 years in prison.
Edward Roy Bennett pleaded guilty earlier this week to slashing a woman's throat at the HEB on West Oltorf Street in May of last year.
The woman was walking back to her pickup truck when Bennett grabbed her purse and slashed her throat.
Bennett had walked away from the Austin Transitional Center a day before the attack.
His criminal history is violent and long. It includes homicide, aggravated assault with a weapon and burglary. Even while in prison, his history shows he stabbed a correctional officer in the face, twice.
