Bob's Blog: Just Say No to "The House That Johnny Built"

Updated: Tuesday, May 13 2014, 06:36 PM CDT

Texas A&M regent Jim Schwertner has an idea, though he probably should have just kept his idea to himself.  Schwertner suggests that when the Aggies reopen Kyle Field, they should officially name it "Kyle Field: The House That Johnny Built".  You could argue the merits of which John the field should hold in highest honor – John David Crow or Johnny Manziel.  What's not debatable – that anyone should consider this serious.

While Manziel did win the Heisman and bring great attention to the school, he went 10-4 at Kyle.  He went 20-6 as a starter, not 26-0.  He won a Cotton Bowl and a Chick-Fil-A Bowl, not a Rose Bowl and a National Championship.

Honor Johnny – he was great.  But everything in the world doesn't have to be overdone every day.  Sometimes too much is too much.  "The House That Johnny Built" is too much.  There are too many great Aggies that helped build that place long before Manziel.
