Doc's Rouse-ing Performance At Rouse High School

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 09:47 PM CDT

The Rouse High School Raiders are two wins away from a state championship - not bad for a team that had two wins in its first two years as a program.

Derrl Ohnheiser has spent five years helping build Rouse athletics, Leander ISD's newest high school, from the ground up.  “Doc”, as the trainer is affectionately known, has 30 years in the Austin area under his belt.  In more than three decades, he has seen just about everything.

The one thing left on his bucket list before his impending retirement? A state championship at Rouse -- which would mean even more because of where it all started.

Ohnheiser graduated from Texas in 1982.  Leander High School’s principal immediately saw promise in the youngster, so he decided to give him a shot.  That principal?  None other than Charles Rouse.

Thirty years later, it has come full circle.  Rouse hired Ohnheiser in '82.  Ohnheiser is the trainer at Rouse High School in '12.

Both will be on hand Saturday with the hope that both the Raiders – and Doc – will have one more game this year.
