Former Texas Tech QB Kliff Kingsbury Returns As Coach

Updated: Wednesday, July 24 2013, 09:49 AM CDT

Back in 2000 Kansas State hung on to beat a gritty Texas Tech team 28-23 in Manhattan.  Then Red Raiders quarterback Kliff Kingsbury remembers it all too well.

"We were getting killed," Kingsbury said of his 302 yard, one touchdown, two interception performance.

Besides the beating he took, Kingsbury remembers something even more significant from the loss.

"I'll never forget he wrote me a handwritten letter after the game, and no one had ever done that for me," Kingsbury reflected.  "When you're a sophomore and Bill Snyder writes you a letter, that means a lot."

The two have shared in their mutual admiration for each other, and 13 years later, things have come full circle.  Kingsbury goes up against Snyder for the first time in November.
"What he's done at that place two times hasn't been done ever," Kingsbury said of Snyder's two stints in Manhattan.

Snyder said he wrote the note because he respects young people who do things the right way.  Snyder also believes Kingsbury will excel in Lubbock.
