Hometown, Heartfelt Tribute

Updated: Thursday, December 19 2013, 10:59 PM CST

You'll never catch them on a board, but Rebecca and Tony Norris are as much a part of Buda's new skate park as the rails and ramps

"This is way way more than I ever expected," Tony said. "This is about as good as it gets."

The facility was built in memory of Jackson Tyler Norris, Rebecca and Tony's late son.

"We're just glad it's here and we're glad we're able to enjoy it," said Rebecca. "It just means a lot that the community has supported us throughout this whole project."

Jackson Norris received his first skateboard when he was seven. By age 10, he was hooked.

"Snow, rain - it didn't matter what the weather was," Rebecca recalled. "He skated every day."

He'd make the 25-mile trip to Lockhart with his best friend, because Lockhart had a skate park and Buda did not. On June 21st, 2011, Norris - carrying his skateboard while trying to cross Highway 183 - was struck by a pickup.

"It was 2:17 when I picked up the phone, and it was Jackson's best friend's mother," Rebecca explained.

Jackson, just 15 years old, died the following day.

"What he did in a short period of time was remarkable," Tony stated.

While Rebecca and Tony are left without a son and Reagan without a brother, Jackson did not leave this world without making a difference. Seven of Norris's organs were saved and donated to seven different recipients.

These engravings at the park symbolize Jackson's incredible gesture. The middle figure represents Jennifer Drake. If anyone can understand Jackson's love for skating, it's Jennifer - she received his heart.

"I'm still so grateful and will forever be grateful to the family," Jennifer said teary-eyed. "And to Jackson, I know you're up there looking down on your family and me as well."

"(Jennifer) is a beautiful woman and I know she's got a beautiful heart," Rebecca shared. "We are so glad that she's here to celebrate with us."

Jackson will never do a half pipe or heel flip in the park that bears his name, but what he's managed to do is more impressive than any trick.
