Mack Brown Addresses Weekend Arrests Of Three UT Football Players

Updated: Thursday, May 10 2012, 11:23 PM CDT
Longhorn football players Kenny Vaccaro, Alex Okafor, and Barrett Matthews will face "stiff action" as a result of their arrests early Monday morning in Downtown Austin, but University of Texas head coach Mack Brown plans to keep those penalties private.

"We’ll have some really stiff action to help them learn from being out too late and not leaving when asked," Brown told KEYE TV sports Thursday. "We took it very seriously, they understand that, and we’ll have some disciplinary action, but we’ll keep that in-house and move forward with them."

Defensive end Alex Okafor, safety Kenny Vaccaro, and tight end Barrett Matthews were charged with failure to follow a lawful order and were arrested early Monday morning after a disturbance at night spot in the 300 block of East Sixth Street.

The men were involved in a disturbance and were asked to leave, but did not do so. Officers arrived and again asked the men to leave, but the men again refused to do so and were arrested, according to police.

"We wish they wouldn't be out that late," said Brown. "We've had a long, hard conversation with all three young men, and I will take it to the staff [Friday].  I hope [the players] learn a lesson about authority, and that if someone asks you to leave, you leave."Mack Brown Addresses Weekend Arrests Of Three UT Football Players
