Mack Brown Inducted Into The Texas Sports Hall of Fame

Updated: Thursday, March 1 2012, 02:42 AM CST
Mack Brown added one more honor to an ever-growing list.

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame inducted its 2011 class Wednesday night in Waco.  Brown is one of 10 members of the class.

“After the national championship when the University of Texas put me in the Hall of Honor, I thought that was as great an honor for a person from Tennessee that you could get,” Brown said.

“Now to be included with the greats in this state, it’s just unbelievable.”

In 14 seasons at Texas Brown is 141-39 and is the Big 12’s winningest active coach.  He has led Texas to four BCS bowl games and three wins – including the 2005 National Championship.

Brown is a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor and joins Darrell Royal as only the second coach in UT history to reach the 100-win plateau at Texas.

Through the past decade, Brown's Longhorns have won seven of nine bowl games, including a stretch of five straight for the first time in school history. The 2005 Paul W. "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year award winner, and coach of the 2005 BCS National Champions, Brown is one of a handful of coaches in the history of college football to lead two separate programs to a Top Five national finish.

Joining Brown in the 2011 Class are: SHAWN ANDAYA, Texas A&M softball pitcher 1984-87; GARY BLAIR,Texas A&M women’s basketball head coach; FRED COUPLES, professional golfer; G.A. MOORE JR, winningest high school football coach in Texas history; DAVE PARKS, All-SWC WR at Texas Tech in 1962 & 1963; TOBIN ROTE (dec.), professional football legend; BUBBA SMITH (dec.), professional football legend; LOVIE SMITH, head coach of the Chicago Bears; and ANDRE WARE, 1989 HeismanTrophy winner.
