Throwback: David Ash High At Belton High School

Updated: Thursday, August 30 2012, 11:15 PM CDT
When the KEYE TV cameras first met Texas starting quarterback David Ash, he was a senior at Belton High School. In October 2010, Texas was struggling through what would be a 5-and-7 season, the worst of the Mack Brown era.

We asked Ash that day (October 4, 2010) what he thought of Garrett Gilbert's performance. Prophetically, Ash responded, "I don't think you exactly know what you're getting into until you're put in the fire," he said.

In 2011, Ash was indeed "put into the fire" as he played in 13 games as a true freshman, starting six, after Gilbert's career at Texas went south.

At the conclusion of Ash's soundbite from 2010, we've included high school footage from his days as Belton High School's standout quarterback.

Ash was named UT's starting quarterback last Wednesday. The Longhorns open the 2012 season Saturday vs. Wyoming. Throwback: David Ash High At Belton High School
