Tire-D Marathoner: Mikeal Ball Completes Austin Marathon While Carrying Two Car Tires

Updated: Monday, February 18 2013, 05:24 AM CST

Sunday's LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon was witness to many incredible stories. However, there was one runner whose story may have a little more "traction" than the others.

A good set of car tires should last 50,000 miles. Mikeal Ball only got 26.2 miles out of his tires. He's totally fine with that.

The 23 year old Tulsa, Oklahoma resident planned to run the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon while carrying two tires on his back. He's training for November's World's Toughest Mudder competition, so Ball is trying to push his mind and body to the limit.

Ball completed the marathon Sunday with an incredible time. He finished the 26.2 mile course in 4:30:07. That's an average of 10:05 per mile. The two car tires added 40 pounds to his frame.

"The city of Austin has been great," Ball told KEYE TV shortly after crossing the finish line. "I'd like to thank them. Without them on the course,  supporting me - this wouldn't have been possible."

Ball admitted the race was tough, but he never had a doubt that he would finish. He said it was "worth every second."

As for his next challenge? "I might try something else next time," Ball admitted. "Maybe instead of tires, I might carry something else kind of crazy."Tire-D Marathoner: Mikeal Ball Completes Austin Marathon While Carrying Two Car Tires
