Trial Begins In Ex-NFL Player's Fatal Wreck

Updated: Monday, January 13 2014, 08:16 PM CST

A prosecutor says there's "no disputing the fact" that former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was drunk the night of a fatal crash that left a friend and teammate dead.

Brent's trial began Monday in the December 2012 death of Jerry Brown.

Prosecutor Heath Harris told jurors that they'll see Brent fail a field sobriety test and lie to officers about how much he was drinking. Police say a blood test showed Brent to have a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit.

But Brent's attorney, George Milner, says that there's no way his client had enough alcohol to be intoxicated. Milner said the 320-pound Brent could drink far more than the average person without getting drunk.

Harris and Milner made their opening statements after completing jury selection last week.
