Supreme Court Won't Stop Union Vote At American Airlines

(AP) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has cleared the way for a union-representation vote among passenger-service agents at American Airlines.

The court has declined to hear Fort Worth-based American's appeal of a ruling upholding the election. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Tuesday denied without comment American's request for a hearing.

About 10,000 employees will decide whether to be represented by the Communications Workers of America. Voting is expected to start Dec. 4 and end Jan. 15.

American and the union disagreed over how much support the union needed to force an election.

American and its parent company AMR Corp. a year ago filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
