CapMetro Pats Itself On The Back For A Job Well Done During F1 Weekend

The full scope of the Formula One race weekend is still being measured, but Wednesday Capital Metro released its first look at the race's impact.

CapMetro officials say on Friday MetroRail riders took 5,500 trips, up from 3,300 on a typical Friday. Extended service helped quadruple ridership to 6,300 on Saturday. And 1,900 trips were taken on F1 weekend's last day on Sunday – the first time MetroRail has tried service on a Sunday.

“Working together, our region was prepared for this event, hands down,” notes Linda S. Watson, Capital Metro president/CEO. “After seeing the numbers, hearing the feedback from the community and our visitors, and after our own evaluation, Capital Metro knocked it out of the park.”

The transportation agency says they recruited over 100 volunteers to assist at rail platforms, bus stops, and around the F1 downtown shuttle site during the race weekend.
