East Austin Apartment Complex Damaged In Fire

A fire damaged an East Austin Apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

It happened at around 1:30 p.m. at a complex in the 3500 block of Loyola Lane, just east of Manor Road.

Both directions of Loyola Lane were closed at the scene of the fire as crews worked to extinguish the blaze. It was put out after about an hour.

The Austin Fire Department says is started in a couch.

No injuries were reported, but AFD said four people are now homeless. They are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Investigators say the cause was an electrical short in an extension cord. Damages are estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents of an apartment.
