Suspect Steals Cop Car From North Texas Police
He’s being called a criminal Houdini - a suspected North Texas burglar who managed to take off in a police car while handcuffed. And it was all caught on video.
Check out the video above. Watch as a hand comes out of the back window of this police cruiser. The door is opened and out comes a man in handcuffs. White Settlement police say his name is Darren Porter.
The suspect somehow was able to roll down the back window and was able to get out of the backseat and took off.
White Settlement police say they caught Porter stealing from an antique store. They handcuffed him and placed him into the squad car, then stepped away to further investigate.
That’s when Porter hopped in the front seat and took off. Check the video to see the view from inside the stolen police car. Still handcuffed he rolls through a stop sign then cuts the wheel so sharply he loses control and almost crashes into a row of parked cars. He then puts the cruiser in reverse and he's off again. Later he hits a puddle and spins out of control going in circles.
Officers had no idea their cruiser had been stolen until 911 received calls about a police car was driving erratically.
Driving fast and running stop signs, the video shows him eventually loses control sending the camera flying. The cruiser was later found abandoned at a Fort Worth apartment complex with a blown tire.
Police say several rifles were stolen from inside the cruiser, but they have been accounted for.
As for the suspect, he's still on the run.
