Relief Could Be On The Way For South Austin Commuters

The Central Texas Regional Moblity Authority will begin an environmental study on the stretch of MoPac between downtown and Slaughter Lane. And just like north side of the MoPac Improvement Project, the MoPac South Project could also include managed lanes -- aka toll lanes.

The big focus of this environmental study is the impact this would have on the Edwards Aquifer and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. The study is expected to take two to three years and construction could begin once it’s complete, which could take another three to four years.

The initial cost is $16 million, with some of that going toward the study and some to future design work.
