Central Texas Child Taken To Mexico Now Back With Her Mother
A three-year-old from San Marcos, kidnapped by her father and taken to Mexico, is now back home safe in Central Texas.
Armando Munoz Garcia, 46, picked up his daughter for visitation on Jan. 15 from his ex-wife, Monica Sanchez Perez, in the parking lot of a church in San Marcos.
Munoz Garcia called Sanchez Perez three days later, saying he was in Mexico and did not plan to return his daughter. His action violated a Caldwell County court order.
Sanchez Perez pursued a custody case in Mexican civil courts. Last week the court ruled against Munoz Garcia in a civil custody case.
Sarahi Sanchez Garcia was reunited with her mother on Dec. 5.
“Thank you very much for what everyone has done, especially the San Marcos Police Department, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the media for everything they have done for us,” Sanchez Perez said in a statement. “We appreciate everyone’s concern. God Bless.”
San Marcos police say Mexican law enforcement authorities would not arrest Munoz Garcia until the civil court in Mexico confirmed who had custody.
Munoz Garcia remains in Mexico and is wanted on a San Marcos arrest warrant for interference with child custody. He faces arrest if tries to enter the U.S.
