Motorcyclist Killed In Weekend Southeast Austin Crash

A motorcyclist was killed early Sunday morning after crashing his bike in a South Austin neighborhood.

Austin police say it happened at around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Magin Meadow Drive and Stonleigh Place, just east of I-35 and south of William Cannon Drive.

Investigators say a motorcycle was travelling westbound on Magin Meadow Drive towards Stonleigh Place at a high rate of speed when it skidded through the stop sign and into the west curb line of Stonleigh Place.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Roy T. Colunga, was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital where he died a short time later as a result of his injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-5594.

This is Austin’s 72nd  traffic fatality of 2012. At this time in 2011, there were 50 traffic fatalities.
