Recovery Continues For Abused Bastrop County Horse
A horse dragged behind a pickup with cuts so deep, his bone and muscle were exposed -- it was a horrible case of animal abuse in Bastrop County that had people reacting from around the country.
It's been about two weeks since KEYE TV first brought you the story of Dragster. And since then hundreds of people have been asking about Dragster's recovery.
From Facebook, emails, phone calls, hundreds of people have wanted to know just how Dragster is doing, so we made the trip about two hours south of Austin to hear about his new home and his new name.
“Oh, I don't know. Dragster maybe seemed ok at first, but I think we ought to have something else – Intrepid,” says Dan, Intrepid’s new owner.
A fitting name for a horse that’s making a remarkable recovery, because it was just one month ago that intrepid was nearly killed- after being dragged behind a pickup truck.
With his wounds now on the mend, Intrepid is absolutely smitten with his new owner.
With dozens of offers from around the country to adopt the abused horse Dan and his wife were chosen by Meadow Haven horse rescue for the permanent vet care they can offer, the private three acre pasture while he heals and the six other rescue horses at the farm he'll grow old with
But as Intrepid settles into his new life, the man who caused him such bad injuries is still on the loose. But we are told there is now a 1,000 dollar reward, offered by a private citizen for his capture.
