Northwest Austin Traffic Crash Leaves 1 Dead


A traffic crash in Northwest Austin Monday morning has left one person dead.

It happened at around 9:30 a.m. in the 11000 block of Anderson Mill Road, just west of Hwy 183.

Investigators say a woman, who has not been identified, was driving eastbound when she lost control of her vehicle, jumped the median and crossed into oncoming traffic. She was struck by two oncoming vehicles.

The woman, the only occupant of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. A person from another vehicle was also transported for minor injuries.

Road conditions were slick from recent rains when the crash happened, but police are still investigating the cause.

Traffic is blocked in both directions at the scene as police gather evidence -- but they say it could be reopened by 1:30 p.m.

This is Austin's 78th traffic fatality of 2012.
