Austin Man Gets Life In Prison For Killing Mother, Daughter
An Austin man was found guilty of capital murder Wednesday afternoon for the killing of a woman that was dating his daughter and the woman’s mother.
Prosecutors say Jose Aviles was upset his daughter was dating Norma Hurtado. A Travis County jury found Aviles guilty of killing her and her mother Maria in April 2011. It took the jury about an hour to decide.
Police say Aviles went to a home in the Onion Creek Plantation neighborhood, knocked on the door and shot the two women when they answered the door.
He fled the scene but was later apprehended by federal agents in San Antonio.
Aviles received an automatic life sentence with no possibility for parole. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
