Austin Police Urge New Year's Eve Partiers To Stay Safe

The Flying Balalaika Brothers are looking forward to playing their music in Austin on New Year’s Eve.  Member Sergey Vashchenko says he's had no problems with crime on Sixth Street, "Not yet. Thank god. Ha Ha."

But New Year's Eve is a different animal. And Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo warns party-goers not to let their guard down. He says, "When you're out in public drunk walking down the street stumbling down a sidewalk or stumbling down an alley...you're making yourself a prime target for robbery, assault or sexual assault."

Acevedo says his department will have more people out on New Year's Eve because of the larger crowds.
