Traffic Crash Numbers Increasing At Round Rock Intersections
Round Rock police say there have been 54 accidents at the intersection at Hester’s Crossing and the I-35 frontage road in Round Rock from July 2011 through June 2012. It’s number one on the list when it comes to accidents in Round Rock.
It’s no surprise to people who work in the area like Brad Nagle. He manages a pawn shop near the intersection and says 54 is just the beginning. “That would be your major accidents, not just your fender benders, not just your small no cops called everybody walks away. I see a lot of that. I see that on a daily basis.” He says it’s common for drivers to speed down the frontage road.
The second intersection on the list is the northbound I-35 frontage road at University. In that same one year period there have been 41 accidents. Officials with the city of Round Rock say they are working with TX-DOT to make improvements to the area and make it safer. The exit is especially busy because of the traffic heading toward the Premium Outlet stores.
The third intersection is Palm Valley and A.W. grimes. There have been 36 accidents there even though there is a red light camera at the intersection. All three of those intersections are state highways.
City Officials say that while distracted driving is one issue, the main problem is traffic congestion and that’s not expected go away anytime soon.
