Texas Gov. Perry: Ease Limits On Weapons Permit Holders

(AP) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry says concealed-handgun permit holders should be able to carry their weapons in any public place.

Perry's comment came in response to the Connecticut school shootings. His voice broke and he stopped for several seconds during his remarks Monday before a tea party meeting in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills.

He began his speech by addressing the Friday massacre in Newtown, Conn.

Asked by an audience member what he thought of passing new gun control laws, Perry says he's heard of one school district considering allowing teachers or administrators to carry concealed weapons. He also says mental health issues should be considered.

Perry says the thought of parents dropping off their children at school, never to see them again, "is not right."
