Brush Fire Ignites In Southeast Austin

A 1-alarm brush fire ignited Tuesday afternoon in Southeast Austin just north of the airport.

The Austin Fire Department says it happened in the 3000 block of FM 973, just north of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, at the Hornsby Bend Water Treatment Plant.

Fire officials say a large mulch pile was on fire and strong winds sent large amounts of smoke down the Colorado River basin.

Because of dry conditions and high winds most of Central Texas is under a Red Flag Warning (increased fire danger) until 7 p.m.
