Bells Ring In Austin To Remember Connecticut Shooting Victims

Across the country and here in Austin, communities stopped at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time to remember the victims of the Connecticut school shooting.

The shooting happened one week ago today.

In Newtown, church bells rang 26 times -- once for each of the teachers and children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In Austin, the bells rang at St. Mary's Cathedral at 9th and San Jacinto Street. (video)

In Newtown, one woman who says she knew seven of the victims says when she heard the bells -- in her words -- "it just melted my soul."

Another woman, who came from a neighboring town, said, "Everybody wants to do something." She says the shooting "shook that false sense of security that we had."
