Car Crashes Into Southeast Austin Store


A close call overnight as a car slams into a store in Southeast Austin. It happened at the Family Dollar on East Riverside around 10 p.m. Wednesday evening.

No one was hurt. Police say the driver claims he had a mechanical problem and lost control of the car. We talked to a store employee who said several people were inside the store at the time of the accident, and the car was just inches away from hitting the register.

"I had just finished checking out a customer and I heard this loud boom, and I was like, 'What in the world was that?' cause I knew it wasn't raining or thundering or anything and then I see the car driving in."

Early Thursday morning, repair work continues on the store front. A worker told us he expects it to be boarded up by sunrise.
